spotted seals inhabitants of arctic or sub-arctic waters, in outer areas of ice floes during breeding season. tend not live within dense drift ice. in summer months live in open ocean or on nearby shores.
spotted seals separated 3 populations. bering sea population includes approximately 100,000 in western bering sea near kamchatka, in gulf of anadyr in russia, , in eastern bering sea in alaskan waters (the population in us). second population of 100,000 seals breeds in sea of japan , sea of okhotsk. third population of 3,300 seals south in liaodong bay, china , peter great bay, russia. there smaller population of 300 grey spotted seals living in waters off baekryeong island located far north of west coast of south korea.
