educational programs

pursuant mission of promoting outdoor recreation safety, nsp has developed number of educational programs designed increase safety awareness , injury prevention.


outdoor emergency care (oec)

transportation

the transportation education program designed teach members of nsp safe techniques transportation of sick or injured guests wilderness safety. specific skills taught through nsp system include safe toboggan handling, ski enhancement, , snowboard enhancement.


avalanche program

the nsp began instructing ski patrollers , other search , rescue personnel in avalanche safety in 1957, making oldest , experienced provider of avalanche education. in addition courses designed ski patroller , search , rescue personnel, nsp offers avalanche education general public. nsp avalanche education courses based on curriculum developed in conjunction american avalanche association.


mountain travel , rescue

developed improve safety of non-patroller outdoor enthusiasts, mountain travel , rescue program emphasizes skills necessary survive in wilderness these skills include nutrition, wilderness physiology, weather patterns, survival skills, group dynamics, navigation, , basic search , rescue skills. program designed ensure venture wilderness have necessary skills safely.
