Commonwealth Marine reserves Protected areas of Australia

the australian government manages estate of marine protected areas known commonwealth marine reserves (cmr) established under environment protection , biodiversity conservation act 1999 (epbc act). these marine reserves in australian waters, not state or territory waters. majority of reserves not in effect until new managements plans released following review of reserves established in 2012.

in addition coral sea cmr , heard island , mcdonald islands cmr, there further 57 commonwealth marine reserves grouped 5 geographical regions called commonwealth marine reserve networks:

north network (8 reserves)
north-west network (13 reserves)
temperate east network (8 reserves)
south-east network (14 reserves)
south-west network (14 reserves)
