the music program @ s.c.s.s. consists of several bands, each of have won numerous awards @ competitions.

symphonic band

symphonic band senior-level band @ stratford central secondary school. symphonic band plays @ various school functions such commencement, assemblies, , concerts, in stratford community , @ music festivals. in past, symphonic band has toured scotland, england, new york, washington, chicago, boston, , montreal. in may 2005 band members traveled scotland , england , gave performances @ edinburgh castle, stirling castle , tower of london. ensemble s repertoire includes of major works composed band, in addition marches, folk songs, show tunes , pop music.

jazz band

the s.c.s.s. jazz band formed in 1990. on years members of jazz band have performed , competed in new york, washington, montreal, chicago , @ various community events in stratford. group played @ alzheimer society s soup s on @ coliseum, , @ winterfest big band swing dance @ victorian inn. jazz band specializes in repertoire of big band swing classics, modern pop tunes, jazz, , rock. students study 12-bar blues pattern , encouraged improvise , play solos.

concert band

the stratford central secondary school concert band consists of grade 9 students. particular band under direction of paula ortelli. called junior band , former concert band consisted of grade ten students. however, when grade 7 , 8 students joined school took title of junior band, junior band took title of concert band , grade tens in concert band promoted symphonic band.

central singers , vocal chords

central singers , vocal chords choirs offered @ scss, both led paula ortelli. central singers, open satb choir want join grades 9-12, focuses on standard choral repertoire , performs @ assemblies , 1 or 2 other events year. vocal chords smaller, auditioned, 8 person ensemble, selected members of central singers. focuses more on mix of madrigals , other cappella pieces, perform other genres well.
