various berber languages spoken, including tamasheq, ghadamès, nafusi, suknah , awjilah. both berber , arabic languages belong wider afroasiatic (hamito-semitic) family.


berber speakers number around 1 million individuals. of these, significant group, nafusi, tripoli , zuwara, concentrated in tripolitanian region. berber languages spoken in oases, including ghadamès, awjilah, sawknah. tamahaq spoken tuareg.
