the post mill dates @ least 1636, when sold john cook. in 1741, richard bishop killed when trying turn mill in high winds , part of blew down. mill sold in 1926 when became outmoded engines fuelled paraffin. has been owned cambridge past, present , future (formerly known cambridge preservation society) since 1932.
the body of mill, buck , contains machinery , balanced on post supported oak trestle, supports entire weight of mill, , bolted 4 brick piers. 4 sails , millstones in front of post balance double steps (which act thrust support when down) , tail pole behind (which used turn sails wind). called post mill because of supporting post.
the sails have face squarely wind buck, weight of machinery, has turned. first talber (step lever) pulled down , hooked place raise steps, miller pushes tail pole round , lastly lowers steps again. sails turn without canvas in strong wind 2 common sails (with close slats) can clothed threading ringed canvasses on central steel rods , roping them on sails. other pair fitted automatic spring shutters opened releasing wind pressure when blew hard. 2 broken shutters remain of these.
the mill repaired , restored in 2003 after grant heritage lottery fund , sails can turn, though not used grinding.

the present bourn hall built on site of wooden castle burnt down during peasants revolt. timber-framed house built in 16th century added in 1602 hagar family in form of three-sided courtyard hall. rainwater gutters @ front of hall still have initials of john , francis hagar.
the hagar family left bourn hall in 1733 , estate belonged de la warrs until 1883. during period bourn visited queen victoria , prince albert while staying @ wimpole hall. last family connection village lady mary, daughter of 7th earl , wife of major griffin, bought hall in 1921 , lived there until 1957. property acquired peter , ann king. bourn hall bought patrick steptoe , bob edwards in 1980 , became world-famous clinic treatment of infertility.

just outside village west of bourn wysing arts centre, research , development centre visual arts operates year-round programme of public exhibitions, events, schools , family activities, alongside artistic residencies , retreats.
