hp integrity rx7640 servers
hp s mid-range , high-end (superdome) servers based on cell boards, called cells, contain chipset, processors, memory, , i/o bus. design allows servers divided hardware partitions, or groups of cell boards. each partition able perform if separate server.
rx7600 series
the 10u rx7620 based on sx1000 chipset supports both pa-risc , itanium 2 cpus. 10u rx7640 based on sx2000 chipset supports both pa-risc , itanium 2 cpus.

16 dimm slots per cell board
maximum of 4 scsi disks , 2 tape and/or cd/dvd-rom internally (half each cell board)
7 hot-pluggable i/o slots per cell board plus 1 core i/o slot per cell board sx1000
the rx7600 series smallest cell-based servers hp. bigger rx8600 (see below) , hp superdome (see below), these servers can partitioned, either 1 big partition (two cells in 1 partition) or 2 independent cells.
rx8600 series
the 17u rx8620 based on sx1000 chipset supports both pa-risc , itanium 2 cpus. 17u rx8640 based on sx2000 chipset supports both pa-risc , itanium 2 cpus.

maximum of 4 scsi disks , 2 tape and/or cd/dvd-rom internally (half cell board 0, half cell board 1)

just smaller rx7600 (see above) , hp superdome (see below), rx8600 can partitioned using combination of 4 available cell boards (minimum of one, maximum of 4 separated partitions).
the maximum number of partitions 4 when used i/o-expander unit. because each partition requires available i/o slot, , rx8600 series integrated i/o-chassis statically maps 2 i/o slots cell board 0 , 1, rx8600 series system limited 2 partitions unless iox installed.
cells can freely moved rx7600 series rx8600 series long chipset same on cells, , firmware compatible.
