Religion Arunachal Pradesh
an uncertain relatively large percentage of arunachal s population nature worshippers (indigenous religions), , follow own distinct traditional institutions nyedar namlo nyishi, rangfrah tangsa & nocte, medar melo apatani, kargu gamgi galo , donyi-polo dere adi under umbrella of indigenous religion donyi-polo. small number of arunachali people have traditionally identified hindus, although number may grow animist traditions merged hindu traditions. tibetan buddhism predominates in districts of tawang, west kameng, , isolated regions adjacent tibet. theravada buddhism practised groups living near burmese border. around 30% of population followers of christian faith.
according 2011 indian census, religions of arunachal pradesh break down follows:
christian: 418,732 (30.26%)
hindu: 401,876 (29.04%)
others (mostly donyi-polo): 362,553 (26.2%)
buddhist: 162,815 (11.76%)
muslim: 27,045 (1.9%)
sikh: 1,865 (0.1%)
jain: 216 (<0.1%)
as per 2001 census, out of 705,158 tribals living in arunachal, 333,102 animist (47.24%), 186,617 christian (26.46%), 92,577 hindu (13.13%), , 82,634 buddhist (11.72%).
out of 101 recognised tribes, 37 have animist majority (nyishi, adi gallong, tagin, adi minyong, adi, apatani.etc.), 23 have christian majority (wancho, mossang tangsa, bori, lisu or yobin.etc.), 15 have hindu majority (mishmi, mishing/miri, deori, aka, longchang tangsa.etc.) , 17 have buddhist majority (chakma, monpa, khampti, tawang monpa, momba, singpho, sherdukpen.etc.). remaining 8 tribes multi-faith, i.e., not have dominant religion (nocte, tangsa, naga.etc.).
