after hollins bankruptcy, meadow farm, country manor, sold charles l. lawrance along 116 acres (0.47 km) bordering great south bay , champlin creek. family renovated 1 of farmhouses on northern portion of approximately 480 acres (1.9 km) remaining relocated. after death of mrs. h. b. hollins, month after husband, daughter marion administrator of estate sold of property not utilized family.


meadow farm demolished in 2002/03 part of harbour view project. project completion of moorings, wealthy gated community subdividing meadow farm s remaining 16 acres (65,000 m) 11 lots. purchaser of 5.88-acre (23,800 m) parcel (now 150 meadowfarm road) containing meadow farm learned cost of refurbishing mansion have exceeded $1 million , opted replace newer estate. according new york times article written in 1999, new estate s owner planned salvage marble fireplaces, panelling , other appurtenances mansion.


remnants of hollins meadow farm can still found off of dock road, including original gates leading small community named after family, hollins estates. once private road leading manor house named hollins lane. hollins stable , clock tower remains residential house @ 37 blackmore lane. carriage house, located west of meadowfarm road , last used residence, demolished in late 1980s make way subdivision. @ 35 blackmore lane believed have been estate manager s (blackmore) house, had been moved location nearby.


at 42 blackmore lane structure on 5-acre (20,000 m) parcel belonged hollins. renovated farmhouse relocated after parting meadow farm. harvard class books 1930s found in house in 1980s - member of hollins family pictured in books.


a company, yarmouth estates of bay shore, new york, has purchased house @ 42 blackmore , requesting subdivision. harry hollins jr. s estate house, designed architectural firm of cross & cross , built in 1907, remains @ 18 crick holly lane , gerald hollins home remains @ 180 bayview avenue. carriage house gerard hollins house still stands @ 158 bayview ave , used private residence. gerald hollins later built home on white oak lane, still stands , visitor s center south shore nature center.


another hollins house, of robert l. hollins, part of 17-acre estate remained on border of hecksher state park until 1980s. land had been purchased nichol estate hb hollins jr. in 1906 , site of 1 of earliest settlements in islip town. includes old house, part of had been older structure on nichol farm , small barn, , grounds keeper s house built on foundation of 18th-century ice house. replete small damn , ice pond, area had been self-sufficient working farm until last nichol passed away @ turn of 20th century. hollins family used land late 1960s duck hunting , private road connected hb hollins jrs nearby crick holly estate. 1990s land , remaining buildings part of hecksher state park , not suffer development of hollins s other holdings.


a private road once ran across of hollins holdings, crossing bayview ave , through estate of hb hollins jr., continued hecksher state park. outline of road can seen running through woods on 1 of last undeveloped parcels of land off white oak lane. 1980s, 1 area resident concerned road still listed legal right-of-way in property deed. local historian believes parts of road, particularly part of on east side of bayview avenue included driveway hb hollins jrs. house, crick holly, 1 of earliest roads in area , connected first nichol settlement located on shore of bay in hecksher park gibbs patent, , grist mill nichol , gibbs operated on west side of chaplain s creek , on village of islip. road ran diagonal across of known , modern, grid like, roads in area , last of it, exception of remains in hecksher park, driveway hb hollins jrs. crick holly; if in fact colonial era road, , there strong evidence was, obliterated little attention when crick holly developed in 1980s. locals @ time assumed road driveway hollins house; appears have had more significance.


in mid 1970s 2 youths digging old bottles in hollins dump @ corner of dock road , hunting lane in ei discovered silver tiffany spoon initials hbh on it; spoon had been held in collection of 1 of boys parents until had been stolen during break-in in 2000s.


the town has named several things in family s honour. notable hollins memorial beach, family generously donated town.

hollin s wife, evalina knapp daughter of william knapp, 1 of subjects in waldo , jewett s painting, knapp children, circa 1834. evalina inherited painting , in 1959, donated metropolitan museaum of art in new york wife of harry s , evalina s son, john knapp hollins, in john s memory. in 2016, amateur east islip historian steven cymbalski had been reviewing late 19th century photograph of hollins family seated in dining room of east islip mansion , noticed painting hanging on wall in background; further inspection revealed waldo , jewett s knapp children . having known of painting , realizing significance of this, mr. cymbalski notified metropolitan museum @ point had not had photograph of famed painting hanging in natural environs , termed discovery quite find. scan of photograph has been provided museum. photograph , story of painting s discovery in has been placed in file on painting @ met.


hollins island

hollins purchased island approximately 3 , half miles south of meadow farm , mile north of mainland fire island in great south bay. family used island hunting before bankruptcy, , speculate contemplated erection of grand estate on bay. island retains name hollins island, referenced east fire island (not confused east island, island succumbed sea off hollins island s northeast shore) or middle island.


the island owned william nicoll purchased property on november 19, 1687 winnequaheagh sachem of connetquot. purchase confirmed on patent governor dongan on june 4, 1688. harry b. hollins purchased island in 1906 estate of sarah nicoll , presented 3 of sons, messers. gerald, john, , mckim hollins.


legend tells island hideaway pirates gold, notably captain kidd s buried treasure of spanish main. due legend, island referred money island , site of many excavations treasure seekers.
