after achieving independence in 1962, air arm (force aérienne rwandaise) formed belgian help. 1972 first modern equipment started arrive in form of 7 alouette iiis. other deliveries included sa 342l gazelles, britten-norman islanders, nord noratlas, socata guerrier armed light planes , 350b ecureuils. after fighting began between rpa , government in 1990 aircraft shot down, destroyed on ground or crashed. few survived.
