sumitomo rubber industries sold tyres road vehicles dunlop brand 1985 1999. in 1999 sumitomo ri , goodyear tire , rubber company of formed joint venture. goodyear obtained dunlop tyre assets in europe , us, , sumitomo ri continued sell dunlop tyres in other countries.


the dunlop tyres company in south africa acquired indian company apollo tyres. in december 2013, apollo tyres sold of south african operations sumitomo ri $60 million (rs 3.33 billion) including ladysmith passenger car tyre plant. apollo tyres has retained durban plant, manufactures truck & bus radial (tbr) tyres , off-highway tyres used in mining , construction industries. sumitomo ri acquired ownership rights dunlop brand in 32 african markets.
