History Pecan Gap, Texas

the first inhabitants of area pecan gap caddo people, settled large portions of eastern texas 800 a.d. caddo highly advanced, living in large wooden structures, , skilled farmers. first european visit area french explorer françois hervey, around 1750. few decades afterwards, european disease , attacks neighboring tribes attacks european settlers forced caddo out of area around pecan gap. around 1820, delaware, quapaw, , seminole tribes began settling in area. in 1836, republic of texas officially recognized region around pecan gap part of red river county. in 1840, lamar county formed, absorbed of area south of pecan gap. however, 6 years later, region designated part of newly formed hopkins county. in 1870 delta county created. pecan gap grew expanded west fannin county.
