league city became incorporated city in 1962. league city’s government consists of 7 council members , mayor. mayor votes in event of tie vote of city council. city s charter purported strong mayor form of government, issue has been debated years. ordinance, city administrator position created under mayor leonard cruse. administrator’s position not carry authority of city manager under council manager form of government. administrator position not have authority conduct city’s business without constant approval of council , mayor. ordinance has created form of government referred hybrid of strong mayor , council manager forms of government.

in 2011 officer accused police chief, michael jez, of giving officers ticket quotas, illegal in state of texas. in november city council voted place chief jez on administrative leave. council did not give reason , jez cited philosophical differences separation. speculation made decision reaction allegation made neither side ever admitted wrongdoing.

in 2014, police department moved new joint public safety building shared police , fire administration housing police department, dispatch, , city jail. building across street old police department houses other city offices in leased space. city held open house in january 2015 serve grand open public , allowing citizens come see inner workings of police department.
