carterton s memorial square on corner of high street , park road , holds carterton s world war 1 memorial, positioned centrally. red granite pillar, apparently broken off @ top, symbolising lives cut short war. memorial unveiled on 13 february 1921 minister of internal affairs george anderson. since 1930s memorial square has been administered under act of parliament – carterton , district memorial square act (1932).
on sundays 22 february 2015, square began host carterton farmers market. weekly produce , craft event born of 2014 place making carterton project, initiated carterton district business (inc) group , carterton district council.
