Service history USS Gurnard (SSN-662)

gurnard operated in arctic ocean under polar ice cap september november 1984 in company 1 of sister ships, attack submarine uss pintado (ssn-672). on 12 november 1984 gurnard , pintado became third pair of submarines surface @ north pole. in march 1990, “gurnard” deployed arctic region during exercise ice ex 90 , completed fourth winter submerged transit of bering , seas. “gurnard” surfaced @ north pole on april 18, in company of uss sea horse (ssn-669).
