most housing in bransholme prefabricated terrace housing, , there 2 blocks of high rise flats on estate (padstow house (pictured) , gatwick house (above)), newer housing on outskirts. unusually during construction of estate, of houses predating estate left (mostly along wawne road) , occasional older house stand on road amongst many of estates other identikit houses.
a growing number of houses boarded up, in particular bungalows intended occupation estate s older residents. quality of houses on estate has been in question ever since construction. many of houses have small windows on front, being small horizontal slits and, although these have proved efficient in maintaining security, many residents have complained houses lack light , unpleasant live in. houses have had condensation problems , heating systems have been described being inadequate.
in recent years, skilgate close , selworthy close have been demolished, leaving large amounts of open space in centre of bransholme when include adjacent former site of alcatraz maisonettes. extensive refurbishment works relating heating systems, kitchens, bathrooms, electrical rewires , thermal comfort (cavity , loft insulation) commenced in 2006 hull city council bring housing stock decent homes standard. programme of works expected completed march 2011.
north bransholme
in 2010 ownership , management of council housing in north bransholme transferred housing association, riverside group. involved 1,175 properties.
