the company founded in 1974 janet , peter walsh, entering bus market in 1987. small network of services began form during late 1980s under name of city nippy , following routes being introduced within 12 months of commencing bus operations:

62 middleton - moston
129 middleton - boarshaw
130 langley - middleton - crumpsall
131 middleton - manchester
132 middleton - langley
133 middleton - alkrington

since then, network of services has developed across manchester. whilst concentrating on north manchester, company has gained presence in southern area through winning transport greater manchester tenders. in past few years, expansion through means has taken far farnworth , stockport.


an attempt reroute service 162 bypass north manchester general hospital met opposition residents in alkrington area. decision reversed , route instead diverted serve more of alkrington estate.


in 2007, took on services operated ashall s coaches , have since taken on routes of former operator, vale of manchester.


another innovation occurred in 2009, when operator became first on route 343, between oldham, mossley , hyde, operate low floor buses. part of summer promotion, in august 2009 company halved cost of weekly season ticket £10.00 £5.00, @ time when competing major operators cutting on services.


in october 2009 company awarded contracts 5 new services in north manchester , received loan of £250,000 buy new low-floor vehicles routes.

in january 2011, jp travel announced sister company eurobus had acquired local coach firm known ellenbrook travel. eurobus began operating on route 17 on 15 may 2011, competing against first greater manchester on route. 5 former stagecoach alexander alx200 bodied volvo b6les used, running alongside jpt on co-ordinated timetable. eurobus vehicles shared same colour scheme (except eurobus logo) jpt. in late 2012 eurobus operation wound up, vehicles being rebranded jpt buses, , gaining jpt fleet numbers.


in february 2012 jpt announced building second depot run @ former brookfield mill near middleton town centre (their current 1 @ middleton junction remain open). on 20 june 2012 jpt announced via facebook page had been awarded licences increase, meaning able have more buses on road.


in january 2013 jpt decided withdraw route 17 (except 1 school trip); left first manchester company on route 17. september 2013 jpt decided reinstate route 17 far middleton, resulting in there being more competition on route between , first greater manchester, service running every 20 minutes, not frequent before.


however, in january 2014 increased competition first greater manchester on 17 , stagecoach manchester on route 112, jpt decided again withdraw 17 route , operate few journeys on 112 in evenings under contract transport greater manchester.


operations ceased on 25 april 2014, business, 41 buses , staff passing stagecoach manchester.
