in week 2 home-opener, vikings faced carolina panthers in low-scoring fight. vikings draw first blood 26-yard field goal kicker ryan longwell. in second quarter, carolina got field goal opposing kicker john kasay. vikings respond longwell field goal (a 22-yard fg), fell before halftime opposing rb deangelo williams getting 3-yard run panthers. vikings trailed bit further in third quarter, karney kicked 26-yard field goal. vikings started own comeback. in fourth quarter, longwell faked field goal try , threw 16-yard td pass fb richard owens tie game going overtime. in ot, longwell booted game-winning 19-yard field goal give minnesota win. first time in vikings history coach started 2–0 in first year.
