during february 1867, knudsen married anne mchutcheson sinclair, whom had 5 children: ida, augustus, maud, eric , arthur–were born between 1868 , 1875. following death, there claims of allegedly illegitimate children resulted in failed attempts of taking on kekaha sugar company. valdemar knudsen, known hawaiians kanuka. in 1945, son eric alfred knudsen published kanuka of kauai, book on life of father, hawaiian natives befriended him.
