there two-story red school house on route 520 in bradevelt re-purposed house in 1810, torn down in 1913 , replaced 1914 school year. in school, garret hobart father addison hobart , future assemblyman john d. honce teachers. interesting note frank dugan, came school , later became important educational system in marlboro - school named after him.

psychiatric hospital

in 1928, construction of marlboro psychiatric hospital begun. main entrance hospital on route 520 in bradevelt. hospital transferred 500 patients graystone hospital in 1931 when opened.

the 509 acres purchased state hospital grounds purchased $76,000. reported houses , farms obtained in 1928 considered old . of structured destroyed built before revolutionary war.

post office

bradevelt had post office. in 1865, mail handled patrick carton lost arm in civil war. mail delivery started twice day. in 1929, changed once daily in evening; changed morning delivery. however, population did not support separate dispatch , post office closed in february 1932. mail area sent main marlboro office.

historic churches

two historic churches serve bradevelt. both located on route 520, first st. gabriel s chappel. built fr. frederick kivelitz in 1878, church served community until larger church built in marlboro. st. gabriel s church known annual carnival. in 1949, carnival featured yankees baseball team featuring phil rizzuto , snuffy stirnweiss. second church started in 1709, first reformed church of freehold , in 1931 changed name old brick reformed church . in 1826, church reconstructed building , erected present edifice.

train station

one of 7 railroad station stops along twelve mine railroad line matawan freehold located route 520 in bradevelt. potatoes main crop area. in 1914, 225,000 barrels of potatoes shipped bradevelt station. depot burned down in may 1926. following fire, rail car used station agent , ticket sales.
