initially turkmenbashi airport in 1940 located @ bottom of plateau, near krasnovodsk hospital. during world war ii transferred top plateaus , airfield co-location soviet air force. independent unit exists since 1959, after creation of 225th separate united air-squadron. in 2010 turkmenbashi airport reconstructed , gained international status. has 2 runways. turkmenistan airlines provides direct flights turkmenbashi airport ashgabat, daşoguz, mary, istanbul , türkmenabat. airport city can reached car or bus. time town car takes 10–15 minutes.
