first generation (2003–2006)

the first-generation xb lightly modified , rebadged version of japanese-market subcompact toyota bb. small hatchback based on toyota echo/yaris platform. xb 1 of 2 models in lineup of toyota s us-exclusive scion division present @ brand s 2003 launch, other being xa, based on toyota ist.

to create first-generation xb, bb modified right- left-hand drive, front passenger area changed bb s front bench seat replaced bucket seats , column-mounted shifter changed floor-mounted shifter.

the available drivetrains differed. bb available either 1.3 l i4 2nz-fe engine or 1.5 l 1nz-fe, mated exclusively 4-speed automatic transmission available wheel drive. xb available 1nz-fe produced 108 hp (81 kw) , 105 lb·ft (142 n·m) in spec, offered both 4-speed automatic or 5-speed manual transmission. all-wheel drive not offered on xb.

the toyota bb not equipped spare tire. on scion xb, compact spare tire stored under left side of raised rear cargo floor. since spare tire raised cargo floor several inches, storage bin added right of spare tire reclaim of lost storage space. jack stored under driver s seat of xb.

the toyota bb had pull-out storage tray under passenger seat xb lacks.

the bb went on sale in february 2000, whereas xb went on sale in june 2003 2004 model year. sales of first-generation bb ended in december 2005, whereas first-generation xb ended sales in june 2007.

scion t2b (2005)

scion t2b (tall-two box) concept car designed calty design research , built 5 axis models in huntington beach, california, interior design calty senior designer bill chergosky , naoki hamajima. 5-door hatchback included 2.4-liter i4 engine, 4-speed automatic transmission, 14-inch brakes slotted rotors, 20-inch billet aluminium wheels, led fog lamp, remotely operated power rear hatch, asymmetrical tri-level instrument panel features large information ticker, mp3 docking station, dual moonroof, suicide doors.

2004 xb rs 1.0

the xb, xa , tc, available in release series each of model years. these came limited-edition paint colors, matching seat colors, , special modifications such dvd players, custom tail lights, special wheels or wheel covers, , other accessories, make rs different others. scion rs receive special badges indicating serial number. limited edition vehicles were, marketing standpoint, used create buzz brand name, exterior colors tending toward loud or bright hues (i.e. orange, yellow, red, blue, green). preordering available @ each dealership on first-come, first-served basis. scion s pure price program requires dealerships sell vehicle @ advertised price. resale values of release series vehicles command premium because of packaged options , scarcity.

the xb release series 1.0 comes unique features factory include hot lava paint, color-keyed rear spoiler, matching orange powder-coated strut tie-bar, custom grill, color tuned interior , under-seat & dash orange illumination.

2005 model year

xb rs 2.0 available in solar yellow 2500 units produced

this rs edition came color keyed side mirrors turn signals, rear spoiler, tunable sport muffler , metal mesh grille. inside there s stainless appliqués on door sills , yellow accents match exterior, , plaque shows build number xxxx/2500. rs 2.0 added $1,375 msrp.

2006 model year

xb rs 3.0 available in envy green 2200 units produced

rs 3.0 changes include envy green paint, seven-spoke wheel coverings, , rear spoiler. standard features include alpine dvd audio/video system; ipod connectivity; headrest entertainment system; , radar intrusion sensor. each of 2,200 vehicles have own numbered badging. rs 3.0 added $2,310 msrp price.

xb rs 4.0 available in torched penny called maziora, line of polarized paints made japan’s nippon paint co. a(polarized goldish-brown) 2500 units produced. release series 4.0 painted in 3-part maziora torched penny paint, color-shifting finish changes depending on viewing angle and/or how light plays off car s surface. in case, colors morph shades of brown, bronze, , gold. in addition deluxe paint, rs 4.0 received rear spoiler, modellista grille, , rear bumper protector , color-keyed. inside, floor mats embroidered reading release series . got multicolor dash lighting, new shift knob , numbered plaque xxxx/2500.

the first generation received overall score in frontal offset test, measured categories in test rated . xb given poor overall score in side impact test. xb model year 2003–2006 did not offer side airbags includes them model year 2008–present.
