grand prairie high school relocated current site @ 101 gopher blvd in january 1953, following 1952 christmas holidays.

classroom facilities

following construction of original building in 1952, school underwent first expansion in late 1970s. however, classroom facilities in use today product of major expansion , renovation project completed in 1990. project added new library, administrative offices, classroom space, cafeteria, , gymnasium (see athletic facilities below), atrium @ school s entrance.

due dramatic growth in student population, gphs opened ninth grade center in 2002 @ southwest corner of campus. high school , ninth grade center consolidated begin 2013-14 school year ninth grade center converted grand prairie fine arts academy.

athletic facilities

the gopher bowl (was constructed in 1956 in northeast portion of campus , hosts school s home football games , soccer matches. unlike many stadiums bowl in names, stadium complete below-ground bowl (the northeast end not enclosed). since 1969, has been site of home football games of south grand prairie high school warriors. remodeled , expanded in 2003–2004 , re-dedicated gopher-warrior bowl recognize both high schools, dismay gopher alumni.

the school s coliseum completed in 1990. gpisd board of trustees re-dedicated amos turner gymnasium in 1998. turner principal of gphs during 1975–1976 school year , served both teacher , coach @ gphs 1953 until 1968.

performing arts facilities

the 2,000-seat h. h. chambers auditorium sits @ southeast corner of campus , dedicated in 1963. chambers served superintendent of grand prairie independent school district 1950 1968.

the leon breeden band hall houses school s music education program , honors former gphs band director leon breeden. following tenure @ gphs, breeden achieved international recognition director of world-renowned jazz program @ university of north texas college of music.
