1933: debut port adelaide

on 6 may 1933, bob quinn made debut port adelaide in round 2 match of 1933 sanfl season in draw against norwood @ alberton oval. during match kicked 1 goal , named in port adelaide s best. playing rover quinn gained reputation of being 1 of leading players in south australia.


1934: quinn vs colyer

bob quinn pitted against roy colyer of glenelg in 1934 sanfl grand final.


in 1934 quinn impressed observers in season, 1 reporting quinn practically assured of position in side rover. displays in both trial games full of merit. port started in 1934 season, despite 131-point win on glenelg football club, improved markedly in second half of home , away season, showing machine-like efficiency , winning last 7 games comfortably finish minor premiers , clear flag favourites. in first semi final, port adelaide again defeated glenelg comfortably, time 65 points, , had week s break while glenelg played sturt football club right play port in grand final. glenelg won port went grand final heavy favourites, quinn expected star. in 1934 sanfl grand final, quinn prominent stages of match , involved in battle royale glenelg s star rover roy colyer. although port adelaide trailed throughout match , lost glenelg 21 points, quinn close best on ground, kicking match high 5 goals.


1935: port finish runner again

during 1935 sanfl season port adelaide win minor premiership falter in grand final south adelaide 8 points.


1936: quinn pulls port on line

in 1936 bob quinn named in south australia s state team first time. breakthrough year port adelaide winning 1936 sanfl grand final against sturt football club, port trailing 5 goals @ half time but, led quinn s magnificent roving , port recovered win 3 points. quinn s first senior premiership , clubs first since 1928.


1937: back , magarey runner up

in 1937, quinn runner-up in magarey medal, won club best , fairest , port s leading goalkicker 51 goals in premiership year. in magarey medal count, quinn came second behind north adelaide football club s harold hawke, polling 36 voyes hawke s 37. generally, voting magarey medal voting conducted under 3–2–1 vote system under trial, 1937 saw votes awarded under 5–3–1 system. had 1937 been conducted under 3–2–1 system, quinn have beaten hawke 24 votes 23 receive have been first of 3 magarey medals.


1938: first magarey , victorian approaches

in 1938 quinn awarded magarey medal best player in sanfl second port best , fairest award. following match south australia against victoria in adelaide in july 1938, quinn offered contract vfl club geelong (for brother tom played). quinn believed prepared accept offer if vfl dropped residency rule interstate players required stand out of football twelve months before being allowed play in vfl. later in year, quinn reported have changed preference of vfl clubs st kilda, , quoted saying had decided go victoria , port adelaide had agreed not oppose transfer. @ start of 1939 both st kilda , geelong both pursuing bob quinn sending scouts adelaide in addition richmond secretary maurie sheahan enquiring services.


1939: captain-coach of port adelaide

ultimately quinn elevated captain-coach of port adelaide in 1939. quinn lead port premiership in first year coach new recruit bob mclean dominating in ruck , forward port adelaide. 1939 premiership quinn s third player.
