in 2014 concept of hybrid scale has been introduced, elastically deformable arm scale, combination between spring scale , beam balance, exploiting simultaneously both principles of equilibrium , deformation. in scale, rigid arms of classical beam balance (for example steelyard) replaced flexible elastic rod in inclined frictionless sliding sleeve. rod can reach unique free of sliding equilibrium when 2 vertical dead loads (or masses) applied @ edges. equilibrium, impossible rigid arms, guaranteed because configurational forces develop @ 2 edges of sleeve consequence of both free sliding condition , nonlinear kinematics of elastic rod. mass measuring device can work without counterweight.
