the zinoviev letter fake letter published in 1924 in british newspaper daily mail. claimed letter comintern president grigory zinoviev communist party of great britain. called on communists mobilise sympathetic forces in labour party , talked of creating dissent in armed forces. zinoviev letter instrumental in conservative victory in 1924 general election. letter seemed authentic @ time historians believe forgery. called intensified communist agitation in britain. historians agree letter had little impact on labour vote—which held in 1924. however, aided conservative party in hastening collapse of liberal party led conservative landslide.
