on 17 july 2009, tottenham hotspur accepted bid of £1.75 million nottingham forest. forest completed signing of gunter on 20 july on four-year contract. scored first goal club in 1–0 victory @ plymouth argyle on 27 september 2009. gunter s first goal in senior football. in match between nottingham forest , crystal palace on 23 march 2010, gunter made 100th senior club appearance. in may 2010 selected in championship pfa team of year 2009–10 season.


on 15 august 2010, gunter , sanchez watt booked referee tony bates on-field altercation; later month fa retrospectively gave gunter three-match ban when replays showed him stamping on leeds united player.
