the us-based national fire protection association (nfpa) has standard nfpa 704 using diamond 4 colored sections each number indicating severity 0—4 (0 no hazard, 4 indicates severe hazard). red section denotes flammability. blue section denotes health risks. yellow represents reactivity (tendency explode). white section denotes special hazard information. 1 example of special hazard capital letter w crossed out (pictured left) indicating water reactant.
