marcellus wright s works include:

the altria theater (1925), dedicated use shriners , operated acca temple shrine; due multiple minarets , domes building known years mosque. designed in partnership fellow virginia architect charles m. robinson. in consideration listing national register of historic places, mosque described architectural fantasy on moorish themes...a perfect example of turn-of-the-century american eclecticism.


the william byrd hotel (1925), first hotel designed marcellus e. wright. located across broad street station, william byrd hotel described richmond news leader monument richmond energy, talent, , progressiveness. in 1996, former hotel reopened apartment building.


the wright pavilion (1927), part of blue ridge sanatorium sponsored grand lodge of virginia , named in honor of masonic leader george c. wright. capacity sixty beds, pavilion built aid treatment of tuberculosis part of state-run tuberculosis sanatorium. in exchange funding, members of grand lodge obtained preference in admittance state-run facility, , major changes had seek grand lodge approval. project marked wright s second major collaboration charles m. robinson, robinson responsible sanatorium s initial planning.


the chamberlin (1928), formerly known chamberlin hotel , chamberlin-vanderbilt hotel due financial backing vanderbilt family. designed in beaux-arts style , opened luxury resort on chesapeake bay, building in use retirement home catering u.s. veterans.


the hotel john marshall (1929), upscale fixture of downtown richmond. main u-shaped structure topped terracotta cornice, , rests upon three-story limestone base. since 2011, former hotel has completed renovations , functions luxury apartments. gubernatorial election festivities held @ hotel john marshall virginia governors-elect linwood holton , douglas wilder. on other occasions, hotel played host multiple presidents of united states, including franklin roosevelt, harry truman, dwight d. eisenhower, richard nixon, gerald ford, jimmy carter, , ronald reagan.
