at end of 1840s bourne started working charles blacker vignoles, employed construct nicholas chain bridge in kiev on dnieper river. travelled russia, , draw , later photographed construction until completion in 1853. in year made pictures new 4th edition of bennet woodcroft s sketch of origin , progress of steam navigation.


bourne kept working in russia artist in residence decade. in year 1852 travelled roger fenton moscow , st. petersburg, resulted in painting of moscow kremlin (see image). stayed in russia in total period of twelve years illustrator , photographer, before returning england.


bourne exhibited work in royal photographic society in 1854, royal academy of arts in 1863 , royal society of british artists in 1865. in england in 1866 married catherine cripps, , settled in teddington. died in 1896 brentford, town in west london.
