history

the community of bruceville-eddy began 2 separate settlements: bruceville , eddy. both communities became stations on missouri–kansas–texas railroad (katy railroad) in 1882.

bruceville

bruceville named lucien n. bruce, donated land railroad station. of bruceville s residents came community of mastersville, located 2 miles north, railroad has bypassed. 1900, bruceville has approximately 289 residents , several businesses. independent school district formed in 1904. bank operated in bruceville 1907 1927. community had population of around 500 during 1930s , 1940s, began decline in post-war years. 1964, number of inhabitants had fallen 175 , decreased 25 in 1970.


eddy

initially known marvin , community renamed after railroad arrived in 1882, honor rail division superintendent everett b. eddy. mid-1880s, community home 150 people, 3 general stores, 2 churches, school, , gristmill. throughout 1890s, eddy continued experience rapid growth, estimates placing total population high 700. bank opened in 1901 , received national charter in 1915. in 1928, schools in bruceville , eddy consolidated, first such merger in mclennan county. late 1920s, eddy had approximately 450 residents. population declined 350 mid-1940s, rose around 600 in 1960s road improvements made commuting easier locals.

in april 1974, communities of bruceville , eddy incorporated single entity known bruceville-eddy. population stood @ 1,038 in 1980 , grew 1,075 1990. figure rose further, 1,490, 2000.


owing unique history, bruceville-eddy operated 2 separate post offices after incorporated. eddy s post office, located @ 100 franklin road, operates under zip code 76524. post office in bruceville located @ 203 first street , had zip code 76630. on june 1, 2009, closed due foundation problems caused building deemed unsafe. postal operations transferred eddy.
