gunter started wales career during 2003–04 season, making 4 appearances schools under-15 development squad before moving welsh schools under-16 squad , played in friendly against republic of ireland plus 3 victory shield internationals. made 11 appearances @ wales under-17 level during 2005–06, playing in 2 rounds of uefa championships wales qualified opening group reach elite stage. next step playing wales u19 squad in milk cup.


at age 16 years , 299 days, gunter youngest player play wales under-21 team when played against cyprus under-21 until former clubmate aaron ramsey broke record in august 2007.
