the alliance school choice launched on may 17, 2004, fiftieth anniversary of landmark supreme court decision brown v. board of education, headquarters in phoenix, arizona. formation of alliance school choice represented merger of 3 organizations: american education reform council, children first america, , american education reform foundation. clint bolick, part of legal team argued zelman v. simmons-harris school voucher case before u.s. supreme court, appointed alliance s first president in 2004. bolick resigned position @ alliance in 2007 take new post @ arizona-based goldwater institute. on january 16, 2007, alliance s board of directors announced appointment of charles r. hokanson, jr., former official @ u.s. department of education, organization s new president. hokanson became president of organization in april 2007 , organization subsequently moved headquarters washington, dc. in november 2008, hokanson left organization , replaced organization s chief of staff, john schilling, serves interim president.
