lone star cavalry
the lone star cavalry granted expansion franchise in america west hockey league in march 2003. stayed in league when merged north american hockey league 2003–04 season. cavalry played out of blue line ice complex in north richland hills, texas , served immediate mid-cities area of metro dallas-fort worth. cavalry part of nahl’s new south division along central texas blackhawks, fairbanks ice dogs, springfield (mo) spirit, texas tornado, texarkana bandits, , wichita falls rustlers.
santa fe roadrunners
after financial difficulties caused cavalry’s home rink, blue line ice complex, close, cavalry left without home. due , other factors, cavalry ended being sold , relocated santa fe, new mexico. team granted membership on september 20, 2004, , began play on september 25, 2004, under new identity santa fe roadrunners. santa fe roadrunners played out of genoveva chavez community center in santa fe. in inaugural season in new mexico, roadrunners played in south division, against central texas marshals, springfield (il) jr. blues, springfield spirit, texarkana bandits, texas tornado, , wichita falls wildcats, finishing 33-15-8 record, 3rd place in division. following season finished dead last in south division behind tornado, bandits, jr. blues, , wildcats. third , final season in santa fe saw roadrunners finishing 41-17-4 record 2nd place in south division consisted of st. louis bandits, texas tornado, fairbanks ice dogs, wichita falls wildcats, , alaska avalanche.

on february 26, 2007, team announced move topeka, kansas santa fe, new mexico, due claims of poor attendance. santa fe ranked 17th out of 18 teams in attendance.
the move topeka initiated grass roots effort, led hockey fans topeka. in first season in topeka, 2007–08, third in league attendance. season team won nahl south division , south division playoffs. finished in third place @ robertson cup competition. 2008–09 season saw roadrunners finishing fourth in league attendance , 2nd in south division. team lost in second round of south division playoffs. in 2009–10 roadrunners finished first in south division, , second in attendance. 2010–11 season saw roadrunners claim nahl president s cup league s regular season champions.
on january 7, 2016, roadrunners fired long-tenured head coach , general manager scott langer, had been team since days cavalry , head coach since first season in santa fe. hired after season ended aberdeen wings. former roadrunner player josh kamrass, stepson of owner don stone, hired replacement. on november 24, 2017, assistant coach justin demartino took on interim head coach, kamrass spend more time @ home , took front office job organization.
