career

at around age 13, day s interest drifted toward rock music , electric guitar. father bought him fender stratocaster , enrolled him in basic vocal training. parents owned , ran popular local restaurant, gave day public arena in start performing, playing every friday night patrons. day made first stage appearance in august 1996 @ bangor restaurant captain nick s. day played in local band called route 66 throughout 1997 , made sporadic solo appearances in local venues until booking agent shawn radley discovered him following year while day supporting ziggy marley @ university of maine. radley became day s manager in june 1998, , began touring more extensively, leading him miss 45 days of school , fail senior year.

at point in 1998, day recorded first demo ep, contained covers of songs dave matthews band, barenaked ladies, , goo goo dolls alongside originals buzzing , lick lips. ep followed later in 1998 demo consisting wholly of day s originals.

on strength of these performances , demos, radley secured day showcase @ annual national association campus activities convention, played 1,500 college talent buyers. having received around 4 months of bookings @ colleges around united states, day decided defer attending college in favor of burgeoning music career.

day s first full-length album, australia, self-financed , independently released. named best debut album @ 2001 boston music awards. fans consider 1 of best , authentic works, follow-up albums stop world , sound alarm having more commercial, polished sound , feel.

stop world (2003)

after ep s release, day relocated london, england record australia s follow up, provisionally titled northern sky. album, become stop world now, recorded in london s famous olympic studios martin youth glover, bassist british band killing joke, previous production credits included verve s urban hymns, 1 of day s favorite albums.

while tracks on australia had featured session musicians, stop world saw day joined first time permanent backing band, consisting of multi-instrumentalist les hall, drummer laurie jenkins , ex-verve bassist simon jones. in addition, majority of album s songs co-written either better ezra frontman kevin griffin or jump little children s jay clifford.

sound alarm (2009)

day released third full-length album, sound alarm, under epic music label on september 8, 2009. after extensive tour schedule following release of stop, day decided take time off, during sorted through emotions writing songs, many of have made way onto sound alarm. toured 5 years straight before stop world came out, 3 years non-stop after released, day says.
